Wise Now Officially Integrates with Apple Pay and Google Pay in Malaysia
Both the physical and digital versions of Wise’s prepaid card are now compatible with Apple Pay and Google Pay in Malaysia.
Wise, the cross-border money transfer company, has recently announced its official support for its prepaid card on both Apple Pay and Google Pay contactless payment services, marking a significant milestone as the first non-bank entity in Malaysia to offer this convenient payment method. This means you can now effortlessly complete transactions abroad using just your smartphone, eliminating the need to carry your Wise card.
For those unfamiliar with Wise, the company introduced its prepaid debit card locally in 2021. This card enables users to make contactless payments in foreign countries without the hassle of currency conversion, provided you have sufficient balance loaded onto the card. Notably, Wise offers competitive conversion rates for spending your prepaid balance overseas, and there are no subscription fees for using its services.
Alternatively, users can opt for the digital version of the card, which is available to account holders at no cost. However, for those choosing the physical card, a fee of RM13.70 applies. It’s important to mention that the newfound compatibility of Wise with Apple Pay and Google Pay extends to both the physical and digital versions of the card.
To add your Wise card to these on-device payment services, simply open the respective app and tap on the “Card” tab at the bottom of the screen. You’ll see all your active cards, and selecting the Wise card and tapping the “Add to” button will seamlessly integrate it with either Apple Pay or Google Pay. Worth noting is that Wise’s cross-border money transfer service does not currently support Samsung Pay.
In their FAQ page, Wise mentions a minor charge applied to your account when adding the card to these platforms. This is a validation step to ensure your card’s functionality, and the amount will be promptly refunded.
