CODE: A Street Performance Shedding Light on the Harsh Realities of Knife Crime and County Lines
In an effort to raise awareness about the perils of knife crime and the ominous world of county lines, the Select Car Leasing Stadium recently hosted a gripping street performance titled CODE. The event, organized by Justice in Motion, featured a fusion of parkour, physical theatre, and mesmerizing trial bike stunts, all synchronized with compelling live rap music.
The narrative revolved around a poignant story of a young individual ensnared by the clutches of a criminal gang, coerced into becoming a drug mule transporting illegal substances across various regions. Meticulously crafted through extensive research on real-life cases and inputs from charitable organizations, the performance portrayed the stark realities faced by numerous vulnerable youths today.
A talented ensemble of urban athletes, including trials bike riders, parkour experts, and skateboarders, along with adept dance performers, breathed life into the show. Notably, the captivating live soundtrack, composed by the renowned artist Marcus ‘Matic Mouth’ Smith and Quentin Lachapele, further amplified the emotional depth of the performance.
To extend support to those grappling with similar challenges, the event provided vital resources, including contact information for organizations such as Samaritans, Childline, Crimestoppers, Eyes Open, Catch 22, St Giles Trust, and Fearless.
This impactful initiative aimed to urge the community, especially young individuals, to confront the harsh realities of these pressing societal issues. By offering a vivid depiction of the perils of crime and exploitation, CODE aspired to ignite conversations and foster a collective drive towards a safer, more secure society.
