Deadly Earthquake in Nepal: Death Toll Exceeds 100

At least 157 people have tragically lost their lives and dozens have been injured following a devastating earthquake that struck western Nepal. The magnitude-6.4 earthquake shook buildings as far away as 600 kilometers, with reports of collapsed houses and disrupted communication in several villages.

The earthquake, centered in the Jajarkot district about 400 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu, occurred just before midnight when many were asleep. Authorities have expressed concerns that the death toll may rise as they struggle to reach remote areas due to the challenging terrain.

Rescue and relief operations are underway, with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal mobilizing security agencies to provide immediate assistance. The earthquake has also affected neighboring districts and even reached as far as New Delhi, India.

This tragic event brings back haunting memories of the 2015 earthquakes in Nepal, which claimed around 9,000 lives and caused extensive damage. Nepal, still recovering from that disaster, now faces yet another arduous rebuilding process.
