Veterans Day Observance in King County, WA
In the United States, the day to honor military veterans is known as Veterans Day. This federal holiday, which originated as Armistice Day in 1919, serves as a tribute to the valiant members of the United States Armed Forces. Renamed in 1954, Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11. However, when this date falls on a Saturday, the observance is moved to the preceding Friday. Similarly, if November 11 lands on a Sunday, the holiday is observed on the subsequent Monday.
For the year 2023, King County, WA will observe Veterans Day on Friday, November 10. Consequently, most governmental offices will remain closed to commemorate this occasion. The county’s transit services will operate on a reduced weekday schedule on November 10 and a Saturday schedule on November 11. However, the Water Taxis will not be in service on either day.
On the day of observance, the District Court, Superior Court, and the Superior Court Clerk’s office will also be closed. Nevertheless, certain services, including solid waste facilities and transfer stations, will remain open to the public. It is advisable to consult individual garbage collection service providers for information regarding collection schedules.
As we reflect on the significance of Veterans Day, let us take a moment to acknowledge and appreciate the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces to protect our nation’s values and freedoms.
