Swatting Attempt Targets Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Christmas

On Christmas morning, Republican U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene experienced a swatting attempt at her Georgia residence, where a false emergency call drew armed officers. The Rome Police Department quickly confirmed the call as a hoax, avoiding any unnecessary police response. This marks the eighth swatting attempt targeting Greene, with past incidents involving false reports of dead bodies at her home.

In this latest incident, a man in New York called the Georgia suicide hotline, falsely claiming a violent situation at Greene’s residence. The call was swiftly transferred to police, who, upon recognizing the address, contacted Greene’s private security detail. The security team confirmed her safety, and the swatting attempt was exposed.

Past swatting calls included claims of gruesome discoveries in various areas of Greene’s home. Despite the challenges, the Rome Police Department has developed a close working relationship with Greene’s security detail, enhancing their ability to assess threat levels accurately.

Greene, who faced consequences in her first term for racist comments and endorsement of violence, has become a prominent figure in the far-right under the current Republican leadership. The Rome Police Department’s criminal investigations division is actively working to identify and build a case against the perpetrator of this latest swatting attempt.

Notably, a New York man was sentenced to three months in prison in a previous case for making threatening phone calls to Greene’s Washington, D.C., office. These incidents shed light on the disturbing trend of swatting calls, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and investigation to ensure the safety of public figures.

As Greene and her security team navigate these challenges, the Rome Police Department remains committed to addressing and preventing such incidents, underscoring the importance of security measures and collaboration between law enforcement and elected officials in the face of emerging threats.
