“Freezing In Place: The Unexpected Benefits of Not Moving”
We all lead busy lives, constantly on the move and with little time to pause. But what would happen if you were to, literally, stop in your tracks and stand perfectly still? That’s exactly what I decided to do in order to explore the potential benefits of not moving.
As I slowly found myself rooted to the spot, I realized that there were all sorts of advantages that came from not moving. Firstly, I felt incredibly still and at peace; in the few moments I stood, I was free of my incessant need to keep running, jumping, and spinning.
As I looked around, I started to notice things that I usually miss out on when constantly on the go; the colorful shades of leaves swaying in the trees, the hummingbirds flitting from flower to flower, and the soft whisper of the wind rustling through the trees. It felt as if I had just stepped into a painting, with all the colors, movements, and life seemingly heightened to give a truly beautiful sight.
What was even more amazing was the ability to hear things that usually fade away in the background. It was only by not moving that I could properly hear and recognize the conversations of passersby, or the melody of the birds, and even the soft thud of my own heartbeat.
By simply standing still, I was able to free myself from the everyday stress of life and truly observe the beauty of the world around me. It was an unexpectedly beautiful and freeing experience that I would not have been able to appreciate had I been running around and moving as I usually do.
It’s strange how sometimes by stopping and freezing in place, we can actually benefit from not moving. Try it for yourself, and let me know what you find!
