Saying Goodbye: Ferris Coffee Bids Farewell to Downtown Holland

After three years of serving as a cornerstone of the downtown Holland community, Ferris Coffee has announced the impending closure of its Eighth Street cafe. The decision, shared via social media on February 28, comes as the company’s lease is set to expire. CEO Mark VanTongeren explained that with a renewed emphasis on the roastery aspect of the business, it was time to shift gears and bid farewell to their Holland storefront.

The closure marks the end of an era for Ferris Coffee in Holland, where it had consolidated its presence after shuttering two locations in Grand Rapids. Despite the closure, the company expressed deep gratitude to its employees and the Holland community for their unwavering support throughout the years. VanTongeren highlighted the team’s dedication to creating moments of joy and connection, underscoring their pride in serving the community.

While the Eighth Street location will soon be a memory, Ferris Coffee reassured patrons that its headquarters in Grand Rapids will remain open, continuing to serve as a beacon of coffee culture in West Michigan. The company remains committed to its mission of being a positive force in the region.

The building housing the cafe, formerly known as JP’s, remains under the ownership of 2 OUT OF 3 LLC, belonging to Jack Groot, the founder of JP’s. The closure signifies the end of a chapter for Ferris Coffee in downtown Holland, but it also opens the door to new possibilities for the historic district. As Ferris bids farewell, the community eagerly anticipates what new business venture will fill the void, carrying on the tradition of fostering connection and community in this cherished space.
