Exploring Beaver Mountain: A Skiing Adventure

On March 17, 2024, Tony Crocker embarked on an exhilarating skiing journey at Beaver Mountain, Utah, accompanied by his companion, Liz. Departing from Iron Blosam, they first indulged in the sights around Salt Lake City’s Temple Square before making their way to Logan for the night. The next day, they ventured to Beaver Mountain, where Liz purchased a window ticket for $70, while Tony utilized his Indy Pass.

Their skiing escapade commenced around 10:30 AM amidst varying snow conditions, with the upper slopes still cloaked in winter snow on north-facing aspects. As the day progressed, the mountain transitioned into spring mode, with temperatures soaring into the 40s. Despite some areas experiencing melt/freeze cycles, the majority of groomed trails remained in excellent condition, reminiscent of Powder Mountain.

Tony and Liz explored the extensive terrain, sampling groomed runs and venturing into Beaver’s Powder, navigating through picturesque Aspen glades. They encountered ski patrol training and relished the vast expanse of the mountain’s offerings, including prime corn snow on Marge’s Triple. A midday break provided an opportunity to recharge with a bowl of soup while admiring the eclectic array of ski area stickers adorning the locker room downstairs.

Tony shared anecdotes about Powderchaser Steve’s exploits at Beaver Mountain, including scoring fresh tracks in the sidecountry. Despite the allure of untouched powder, they opted to ski within the boundary, reveling in the excellent terrain amid mostly spaced trees. Their day culminated in softened bumps on Upper Teddy’s and Lee’s runs, with Tony tallying an impressive 20,800 vertical feet by 4 PM.

Reflecting on their experience, Tony likened Beaver Mountain to Pebble Creek, albeit with greater expansiveness and remoteness. As the day wound down, they embarked on a journey to Eden, where they checked into their Wolf Creek condo before savoring dinner at the Shooting Star Saloon in Huntsville, rounding off their adventure in the picturesque landscapes of Western North America.
