Siena Women’s Lacrosse Dominates Rider in Record-Breaking Victory
Siena’s women’s lacrosse team showcased an unstoppable performance against MAAC newcomer Rider, securing a historic win at Hickey Field. Despite adverse weather conditions, including rain, sleet, and snow, the Saints shattered records in a 22-4 triumph, marking the largest margin of victory in the team’s 28-year history.
The victory not only surpassed the previous largest margin by a significant margin but also equaled the program’s record for the most goals scored in a single game, matching their achievement against Hartford in 2019. The team’s dominance extended to all aspects of the game, particularly in draw controls, where they secured an impressive 26 out of 30.
Senior Taryn Asselin stood out with a remarkable performance, setting a new single-game record for draw controls with 15, surpassing her own previous mark earlier in the season. Despite Rider’s strong start to the season and featuring top players like Katie Walsh, the Saints held their opponents in check, limiting Walsh to just two draw controls and one goal.
Offensively, juniors Grace Dobrzynski and Kelly Logue led the charge, with Dobrzynski notching eight points and Logue surpassing 100 career points with a six-point performance. The Saints’ dominance was evident throughout the game, leading 7-1 at the end of the first quarter and extending their lead to 13-3 by halftime.
Defensively, graduate student Jenna Colabufo played a pivotal role, causing four turnovers and reaching a milestone of 50 turnovers in her Saints’ career. Despite Rider’s offensive prowess, averaging nearly 15 goals per game, the Saints’ defense held firm, limiting their opponents to just nine shots, with six on target.
With this win, Siena extends its winning streak to four games and continues its strong performance in the MAAC. The comprehensive victory serves as a testament to the team’s skill, determination, and relentless pursuit of excellence on the lacrosse field.
