From a very young age, Lewis Capaldi’s parents knew that he was experiencing a different life due to his tics. He revealed that during school his teachers noticed his symptoms and asked him questions about it. “It was always obvious. But obviously, in school, there’s a lot of kind of scrutiny with all kids anyway, so people always commented, ‘Is that a real thing or what?’ And it kind of bothered me.”

At first, Capaldi kept his Tourette’s private and he wouldn’t openly talk about it. He admitted to keeping quiet about his condition and making excuses for why he tics so much. But as he’s grown up and started his career, Capaldi has become increasingly open about his struggles with Tourette’s. He also talked about how people’s reactions to his Tourette’s Syndrome can often be hurtful and isolating.

Despite all the negativity, Capaldi has embraced Tourette’s Syndrome and found ways to cope with it, such as going for walks and using mindfulness to manage his stress levels. He has also been honest about his experience in interviews and social media, which has resonated with fans who suffer from Tourette’s or have similar experiences.

It’s through Lewis Capaldi’s openness and willingness to share his story that we can get a better understanding of Tourette’s Syndrome and the struggles that come with it. In his own words, “At the end of the day, you’ve got to remember you’re still human, you’re still a person, and your differences should be embraced rather than criticized.”
