“Six Nations: A Celebration of Diverse Cultures”
The six nations, a diverse group of Indigenous peoples located in Canada and the United States, have much to celebrate. From language, to customs, to spiritual practices, these nations are united in their diversity. This is why we celebrate their annual gatherings, or powwows.
Powwows are a unique celebration of the diverse cultures of the six nations. This event is the coming together of many cultures in order to recognize, share and strengthen ties. At a powwow, members of each nation are able to share in their dances, customs, spiritual practices and traditional regalia. All are welcome to attend.
Attending a powwow is like stepping back in time. From the honor songs to the traditional regalia, each aspect is deeply steeped in the past. At the same time, this gathering is the opportunity to look ahead. To continue the proud traditions of each nation.
It’s no surprise that the six nations draw large crowds for powwows. Each gathering celebrates the strength of each nation and how their cultures are alive today. Visitors come to witness traditional dancing and storytelling. They also get to take part in activities such as feasting, trading and craft demonstrations.
The six nations’ powwows are a truly inspiring and amazing event. They are the chance to experience traditional practices from the many distinct and diverse cultures that make up the six nations. No matter what nation you’re from, these powwows offer the opportunity to be a part of something special.
