“Be Real: No Need To Flatter”
The age of filters and edited photos has put too much emphasis on showing an idealized version of ourselves. From big pouting lips to tiny waistlines, it’s hard to take social media profiles at face value. That’s why it’s so important to remain authentic and honest, even when others try to flatter us.
Flattery may make us feel good, but it isn’t sincere. When someone compliments us out of politeness or expectation rather than from the heart, it takes away from the authenticity of a conversation. Instead, a real conversation requires that people put aside vanity and pride and really connect.
Even in a romantic context, don’t flatter each other. Relationships are built on respect, trust, and openness. Constantly inflating egos without substance won’t last. Openly express what you genuinely like about each other.
Sometimes, it’s ok to flatter someone or be on the receiving end. A small amount of positive feedback is healthy, as long as it is genuine. If someone you love needs to feel encouraged, that’s the time for kind words. Just don’t get used to it. Be yourself, always.
