Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened.

We’ve all experienced heartbreak, disappointment and loss. Whether it’s a failed relationship, the loss of a job or any other painful event in life, it can be hard to stay positive.

It can be difficult to see the good side of things when faced with an adverse situation but there is always something positive we can take away from every experience, no matter how difficult. It may take some time and effort to find the silver lining but doing so can lead us towards more positive thoughts and better emotional health.

Rather than allowing ourselves to fall into despair and become bitter when faced with something challenging, it is much healthier to focus on what has been gained rather than what was lost. For instance, if you lose your job try looking at it as an opportunity for personal growth instead of wallowing in sadness over losing your livelihood. Think about the new skills you may have gained during your time at that job, or how this gives you the chance to pursue a new career path.

This advice may sound cliche but truly believing that “everything happens for a reason” can be extremely helpful when dealing with difficult times. Learning not to cry because it’s over but rather smile because it happened is an important part of personal growth and acceptance. Once we accept our past experiences for what they are and acknowledge all that was gained, we can move forward and strive towards something better with renewed enthusiasm!
