Happy he who learns to bear what he cannot change.
As the famous quote goes, “happy he who learns to bear what he cannot change”. This can be interpreted in many ways, but I think it comes down to the importance of having resilience when facing difficult and challenging times. Life throws curveballs at us all and we must learn how to manage and cope with those circumstances if we are to remain happy and successful.
At some point or another in life, we will come across things that are out of our control. Whether it’s an illness, a traumatic event or an uncontrollable circumstance – these can often cause stress, sadness and sometimes even depression. But it’s important not to get overwhelmed by these experiences; instead, it is crucial to look at them as learning opportunities which help build your character and prepare you for any similar situations you may face in the future. Learning to accept and acknowledge what we cannot change will lead us towards more fulfilling lives where we become comfortable in embracing different challenges that arise.
Rather than spending time trying to control things beyond our capabilities, why not try embracing this notion of accepting life’s changes? Although hard at first, once you take the step back and make peace with the situation – chances are you’ll find inner peace within yourself. Developing resilience through accepting changes which we cannot control will help us become better people both mentally and emotionally – teaching us lessons along the way on how to appreciate the moment despite the imperfections that occur within our lives.
Ultimately, although difficult to come by, if you take away anything from this saying it should be: find contentment within life’s most challenging moments. Happy he who learns to bear what he cannot change!
