Elizabeth Taylor
Elizabeth Taylor was a famous actress and style icon known for her love of jewelry, particularly diamonds. One of her most famous pieces of jewelry is the “La Peregrina” necklace, which featured a large pear-shaped pearl that was originally discovered in the 16th century. The pearl was later owned by Spanish royalty before being sold to Richard Burton, Taylor’s husband, as a Valentine’s Day gift in 1969.
The necklace was designed by Cartier and featured the large pearl suspended from a diamond and ruby necklace. It was one of Taylor’s most cherished pieces of jewelry and she wore it on several occasions, including to the Academy Awards in 1970.
In 2011, the “La Peregrina” necklace was sold at auction for $11.8 million, making it one of the most expensive pieces of jewelry ever sold. The buyer was not disclosed.
