Nepal: geography, culture, politics
Nepal is a landlocked country located in South Asia, bordered by India to the south and west, and China to the north. Its capital and largest city is Kathmandu. Nepal has a diverse geography, including the Himalayas, which contain the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, as well as numerous other peaks above 8,000 meters. Nepal is also home to a rich cultural heritage, including a variety of ethnic groups, languages, religions, and traditions.
The Nepalese economy is primarily based on agriculture, with tourism and remittances also contributing significantly. The country is known for its natural beauty and is a popular destination for adventure tourism, particularly trekking and mountaineering.
Nepal has a complex political history, with a monarchy that lasted until 2008. The country has since been a federal democratic republic, with a president as the head of state and a prime minister as the head of government. Nepal has faced significant political instability and social unrest in recent years, including a decade-long civil war that ended in 2006, and several major earthquakes that struck the country in 2015.
