Hiroshima Symbol of Peace
Hiroshima-shi is the Japanese name for the city of Hiroshima, located on the southwest coast of Honshu, Japan’s largest island. Hiroshima is the capital city of Hiroshima Prefecture and has a population of over 1.1 million people, making it the largest city in the Chugoku region of Japan.
Hiroshima is perhaps best known for the atomic bombing that occurred there on August 6, 1945, during World War II. The bombing, which was carried out by the United States, destroyed most of the city and killed tens of thousands of people. Today, Hiroshima is a symbol of peace and a popular destination for tourists, who visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum to learn about the bombing and its aftermath. The city is also known for its delicious food, including Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, a savory pancake made with noodles, vegetables, and meat or seafood.
