Dalian Overview


Dalian is a major city located in northeastern China. It is situated on the Liaodong Peninsula and is bordered by the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea. Here are some key facts about Dalian:

Location and Geography: Dalian is the southernmost city of the Liaoning Province and is approximately 370 kilometers (230 miles) southwest of the provincial capital, Shenyang. The city spans an area of about 13,237 square kilometers (5,111 square miles) and has a coastline that stretches over 1,906 kilometers (1,184 miles).

Population: As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the population of Dalian was estimated to be around 6.9 million people. However, please note that population figures may have changed since then.

Climate: Dalian has a temperate continental monsoon climate, characterized by mild summers and cool winters. The city experiences moderate rainfall throughout the year, with the heaviest precipitation occurring in late summer.

Economy: Dalian is one of China’s major economic centers and a significant seaport. It serves as a crucial transportation and logistics hub for both domestic and international trade. The city has a diverse economy, with industries such as petrochemicals, machinery manufacturing, electronics, shipbuilding, and finance playing a significant role.

Tourism: Dalian is also known for its beautiful coastal scenery and pleasant weather. The city boasts numerous parks, beaches, and landmarks that attract tourists. Some notable attractions include Xinghai Square, Tiger Beach Ocean Park, Zhongshan Square, and Bangchuidao Scenic Area.

Education: Dalian is home to several prestigious universities and research institutions. Dalian University of Technology, Dalian Maritime University, and Dalian Medical University are among the prominent educational institutions in the city.

Sports: Dalian has a strong sporting culture and has hosted several international sports events. Football (soccer) is particularly popular in the city, and Dalian is home to several professional football clubs.
