Mount Bromo Overview

Mount Bromo is an active volcano located in East Java, Indonesia. It is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, which is a popular tourist destination known for its stunning natural beauty and unique landscapes.

Height: The summit of Mount Bromo stands at an elevation of 2,329 meters (7,641 feet) above sea level. While it is not the highest peak in the area, its distinct shape and surrounding scenery make it one of the most famous and frequently visited volcanoes in Indonesia.

Volcanic Activity: Mount Bromo is an active volcano and is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area known for its high volcanic and seismic activity. Although it has had numerous eruptions throughout history, the most recent significant eruption occurred in 2011.

Caldera and Crater: The volcano sits within the massive Tengger Caldera, which spans an area of approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) in diameter. Inside the caldera, there is a smaller crater called the “Sea of Sand,” a vast expanse of fine volcanic sand covering an area of about 10 square kilometers (4 square miles).
