A Reflection on Poverty: A Child’s Tale of Misfortune

It’s a heart-wrenching tale.

One of poverty and the lack of basic resources and rights, the constant feeling of being on the losing side of life, and the isolation of being neglected and disregarded.

I’m talking about the life of a child who is born into poverty. Too many of us overlook or ignore the hardships of these kids and their families, because of how hidden their plight is.

Growing up, these kids face unyielding battles of hunger, unsafe housing, educational inequality, and health care disparities. They often don’t have the tools, or support systems, they need to get ahead. The risk of physical abuse and depression are magnified in their already difficult situation, yet so few are speaking up on their behalf.

Seeing this injustice and lack of access, I can’t help but wonder what we can do as a society to make it better for these children. Can we as a community provide them with proper support systems, better educational and job opportunities, and a safe environment? Can we all be agents of change, advocates for them, and contributors to a better tomorrow for these kids?

The child living in poverty deserves to know that their struggles are recognized, their hopes for a better life are not forgotten, and that our world is one of possibilities and opportunities. Let’s take the time to recognize them, remember them, and bring the change we wish to see in the world.
