Giza Pyramid Complex

The Giza Pyramid Complex is an ancient Egyptian complex located in the Giza plateau, just outside Cairo. It consists of three main pyramids, known as the Great Pyramids, and several smaller pyramids, temples, and tombs.

The three main pyramids were built for three pharaohs of the Fourth Dynasty of ancient Egypt: Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure. The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the largest and most famous of the three, standing at a height of 147 meters (481 feet) and consisting of over 2 million limestone blocks. It is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The Giza Pyramid Complex also includes the Great Sphinx, a massive statue of a lion with the head of a pharaoh, believed to be the likeness of Khafre. The Sphinx stands at a height of 20 meters (66 feet) and is made of limestone.

The complex was built over a period of several decades in the 26th century BC and served as a burial site for the pharaohs and their consorts. The pyramids were originally covered in polished white limestone, which has since eroded or been removed. The complex continues to be a popular tourist attraction and a subject of fascination and study for archaeologists, historians, and Egyptologists.
