Tokyo’s Prefecture Characteristics
Tokyo-to is the capital and largest city of Japan. It is located on the eastern coast of the island of Honshu and is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan. The name “Tokyo” literally means “eastern capital,” reflecting its status as the seat of power for the Japanese government since 1868.
Tokyo-to is the most populous prefecture in Japan, with a population of over 13 million people.
